Osteopathy is focused on patient centered care. Therefore, on your first visit we will spend some time finding out all about you and your symptoms.

We will carefully undertake a full medical assessment, listening to you and ask questions to make sure that we understand your medical history and day-to-day routine. We will ask you about things like diet, exercise and what is happening in your life, as your responses may give clues to help our diagnosis. We may also perform a range of clinical tests such as taking your blood pressure, feeling your pulse or checking your reflexes to help us reach a clear understanding of your case. If necessary, and with your consent, you may also be referred for clinical tests such as x-rays if we think you need them. If we perceive such a need we will discuss things with you, so that you can make a fully informed decision about how we best care for you.

We usually look at your posture and how you move your body. We also assess what happens when we move your body for you and see what hurts and when. The Osteopath will use their highly developed sense of touch to find the areas that are sensitive or tight; this will help us identify what is going on and formulate an accurate diagnosis. We may sometimes feel that osteopathy is not appropriate and may refer you back to your GP or another specialist, with your consent.

Osteopathy is all about finding the right solutions for the individual. Therefore all decisions relating to your health will be made in discussion with you as the patient, so that the most appropriate care can be given to best meet your needs.

Treatment lasts between 30 to 45 minutes, the number of appointments required to influence your symptoms depends on the condition and the person we are treating. We will give you a clear indication of how many appointments may be necessary at your first session and we will regularly review your progress with you whenever necessary.

You do not need to see your doctor first if you are paying for your own treatment. However some insurance companies require you to see your doctor before embarking on a course of treatment.
